You really didn't have to.

And has been the tradition lately, there's a cute scribble as the vote incentive!

A heads-up!: SINCE THIS,, seems like, a nice????? place to pause -- I'll be taking next week off to get caught up on some stuff! I want to get pages for the next couple scenes roughed out so I don't fall behind on schedule too much, but Lord willing we should be back with a normal update on April 10th!!

I’ve gone on a rant about Xira to my boyfriend for a bit now and I’ve just devolved into whimpering “He’s a good boy...” periodically while he’ll answe “IS HE?”

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

I so knew this was gonna happen. xira, what is with you an tossing things down a cliff?
You are horrible.
Aaaaagh

I mena, I know he is not actually horrible, but this is horrible. He is on the best way to become a Jonan.

Also, what the heck are you thinking Xira, that they will not notice your loud thoughts about "omg I shouldn't have tossed the girl into the river, I hope they don't find out" ?!
Or you think it will wear off? HAHA! You sweet dumb idiot, have you not heard that they are doing this whole thing to get rid of permanent miscasts?

I am so stressed right now, Shazzbaa! What have you done!?
:)

=== He is on the best way to become a Jonan. ===

Not a Jonan, I'm afraid, but a Iavin.
Jonan shows some remnants of humanity and decency... Unlike Iavin.

I don't think we can compare Jonan and Iavin given how little we have seen of the latest. I mean, Jonan routinely seals people's lips shut, digs up corpses, threatens people (and they obey and fear him, which means he could have done more), forcefully removed Xira's scarf... We just happen to love necropony.

Yepp, that is what I meant. Jonan is a jerk and I think he "does what he thinks needs to be done, no matter how it affects others". He doesn't seem to give a second thought about how his actions affect others. Remember how he never even considered that sealing someone's lips shut for 3 days will probably kill them - until Sev pointed it out?

Xira has been nice, but he might also have ulterior motives of which we do not know. He has been screwing with people's memories before without giving a damn about it, it just so happened to serve our protagonists. Now he is playing mind tricks on the people who helped him and tosses a helpless girl into a river. He knows she will probably not die, but still, having to spend who knows how much time alone at the bottom of the lake (??? river??) might be worse than death if no one finds her for years. (though she might float, not sure how that will work).

Anyway, point is, he is placing himself greatly above others and uses strong magic to enforce his ways against people who are defenseless.

I think the story will probably involve him realizing how that is not cool (as also Jonan potentially going through some growth etc, as I think this story is more about the character's journey than a plot), but right now, he is on the way to being an evil jerk.

...Wouldn't the force-field-cube float? It's mostly air.

If it doesn't let water through, I mean, but then wouldn't she be able to swim?

Nononono this is baaaad :(

And apart from how horrible this is, did he think about how he was going to "come back"? Like, Xira, I'm pretty sure you can't breathe underwater and now Æmber is at the BOTTOM OF A RIVER!

There's only so much a person can do before that person can be safely labeled as a damned monster, regardless of how much the author tries to make one empathise with them, or how much of their character we have come to discover. Xira may be dancing around the threshold right now; yes, you are horrible, and you are just telling yourself that to make you feel there's some good in you that realizes it's wrong, it's just placebo for your morals, because you did it anyway.

Oh, yeah, when the rest of the group figures out what happened at some point (AND THEY WILL), Xira will have some 'splainin' to do.

I'm dying to find out what Iavin is blackmailing him with as Xira strikes me as a good person who is driven to make bad choices out of desperation - is his family being held hostage?

Also - love, love, LOVE the silhouette panels with Xira pushing Aember over the cliff. It's very striking and perfectly conveys the atmosphere and mood that something VERY BAD is happening.

Sad thing is, I don't think he is blackmailed. Maybe fooled or manipulated, but I don't think he is forced to work with Iavin. His first thought was "we work together" and he didn't appear to be stressed when contacting Iavin the end of the previous chapter. He also thought something about "stealing" and "Loa". Not sure what that means. But I doubt Xira is as innocent in all this as we would like to believe he is. He seems like a "good kid", but... you know, he surely doesn't act like one.

Xira, you have exactly till next page to regret what you've done and correct it.

He seems to have been in some kind of daze these last couple of pages, so it could either be years of "work" by Iavin he's fighting or it's just Xira seeing himself become a bad person and not finding enough moral strength to fight it.

I mean, what's stopping the person who taught Xira mind-messing from messing with Xira's mind? Something like an obligation to hide Iavin's identity at all cost or something.

Or Xira is really just rotten on the inside.

Ok this is me jumping off the Xira/tareth ship unless it cuts back next update where he has undone all this and they wake up to him standing waiting for them to pass judgement cause there is no worse fate I could imagine for anyone then stuck in a box in the dark underwater! He effectively just BURIED HER ALIVE!!

Ohhh man is that a Moral Event Horizon I see?

But all joking aside, I hope Aember isn't just stuck at the bottom of the river for a while...how exactly is Xira supposed to retrieve her again?

Good God... Xira... what have you done?

I feel like we just lost 2 characters: Æmber and the Xira-we-thought/hoped-we-knew. My heart hurts.

(This page is beautiful! Aesthetically and emotionally on point.)
