Xira has a mount, so he could follow severian at a reasonable speed (sure flying is faster, but that thing can't be that slow, although endurance might be an issue) and Sev can carry Aember in his claws pretty easy (I'd bet it wouldn't even matter if he dropped her lol). I think that would be a reasonable plan. Can't say I'd dislike seeing everybody turned into squirrels though.
